Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: Allah’s Apostle said, “While I was sleeping I saw (in a dream) some people wearing shirts of which some were reaching up to the breasts only while others were even shorter than that. Umar bin Al-Khattab was shown wearing a shirt that he was dragging.” The people asked, “How did you interpret it? (What is its interpretation) O Allah’s Apostle?” He (the Prophet ) replied, “It is the Religion.”

Commentary: Just as a shirt covers our nakedness and protects us from improper exposure, our faith and our religion covers and protects us from allowing the world to distract us from proper behavior. This is one of the benefits of leading a spiritual life that includes remembrance of Allah as we go through our daily lives. In the dream, Rasul Allah (saw) saw the depth of the faith of people in the form of the length of their shirt. Some were longer than others meaning that some had a stronger religion than others.
