All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, seek His forgiveness, and turn to Him in repentance. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from the consequences of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whoever He allows to stray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.

O servants of Allah, I advise myself and you to have taqwa of Allah: to be conscious of Him in private and in public, in ease and in hardship, in times of abundance and in times of need. Taqwa is the path to blessing, tranquility, and true provision.

Allah Is Ar-Razzaq

Among the beautiful names of Allah is Ar-Razzaq: the Provider, the Sustainer, the One who creates provision and delivers it to every creature. Allah says, “Indeed, it is Allah who is the continual Provider, the firm possessor of strength.” This name teaches us that our provision is not random, forgotten, or outside His knowledge. Every breath, every meal, every opportunity, every moment of health, every door opened after difficulty is from Allah.

Allah also reminds us that there is no creature on earth except that its provision is upon Him. The ant beneath the soil, the bird in the sky, the fish in the sea, and the human being walking with worries in the heart are all sustained by the One who never sleeps, never forgets, and never fails.

Rizq Is More Than Money

Many people hear the word rizq and think only of wealth. But rizq is broader than money. Faith is rizq. Guidance is rizq. A peaceful heart is rizq. A righteous family is rizq. A beneficial friend is rizq. Knowledge, health, time, safety, and the ability to worship Allah are all forms of provision. A person may have little wealth but possess a heart full of Iman, contentment, and gratitude; that person has been given a treasure many wealthy people search for but cannot buy.

So when we ask Allah for provision, we should not ask only for an increase in income. We should ask Him for what is best for us, halal provision, blessed provision, provision that brings us closer to Him and not farther away. Wealth without barakah can become a burden, while even a small amount with barakah can be enough, peaceful, and fruitful.

Trust Allah, But Do Not Abandon Effort

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the balance between trust and effort. He said that if we relied upon Allah as He deserves to be relied upon, He would provide for us as He provides for the birds: they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening. Notice the wisdom in this example: the birds do not remain in their nests waiting. They leave, they search, they move, and they strive; but their hearts depend on Allah.

This is tawakkul. It is not laziness, and it is not anxiety. It is not abandoning the means, and it is not worshiping the means, let me repeat that last part – it is NOT worshipping the means, it is NOT worshipping the means. The believer works honestly, plans wisely, seeks halal income, avoids haram shortcuts, and then places the outcome in the hands of Allah. The heart says: “My effort is a means, but Allah is the Provider.”

Gratitude Protects Provision

O believers, one of the greatest ways to honor the Sustainer is to be grateful for what He sustains us with. Gratitude is not only words on the tongue; it is obedience in action. We show gratitude for wealth by earning it lawfully, spending it responsibly, giving zakat and sdaqa, and not looking down on those who have less. We show gratitude for food by remembering the provider and remembering those who are hungry. We show gratitude for health by using our strength in worship and service. We show gratitude for time by seeking knowledge and learning as Rasul Allah (saw) and not wasting our lives in heedlessness.

When a person recognizes Allah as the Sustainer, envy begins to fade. Why resent what Allah gave someone else, when the One who provided for them is able to provide for you? Why humiliate yourself for people, when the keys of provision belong to Allah? Why lose hope, when your Lord is Ar-Razzaq?

Second Khutbah

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, upon his family, his companions, and all who follow his guidance until the Last Day.

Servants of Allah, remember that provision is a test. Abundance is a test of gratitude, and restriction is a test of patience and trust. If Allah gives, do not become arrogant. If Allah withholds, do not despair. Sometimes Allah delays a provision because He is protecting us, purifying us, redirecting us, or preparing us for something better. The believer does not measure Allah’s love only by worldly increase, but by guidance, faith, and doing all that brings nearness to Him.

Let us leave today with three commitments:

• to seek our provision only through halal means,
• to rely upon Allah while making sincere effort, and
• to be generous with what Allah has placed in our hands.

The One who sustains us loves when we become a means of relief and mercy for others.

O Allah, You are Ar-Razzaq, the Sustainer and Provider. Provide for us from what is halal and pure. Place barakah in our earnings, our homes, our families, our health, and our time. Protect us from haram provision, from greed, from envy, and from despair. Make us grateful when You give, patient when You test, and trusting in You in every circumstance.

O Allah, relieve the distressed, feed the hungry, provide for those in debt, heal the sick, guide our hearts, forgive our sins, and make us among those who recognize Your blessings and use them in Your obedience. Send peace and blessings upon Muhammad ﷺ, his family, and his companions. Ameen.
